State-of-the-art Surface Miner Vermeer technology

In our ever-changing world, one of the things you can always count on is technology. We can do things today that we couldn’t do 10 years ago with our evolving and improving technology, and the next 10 years will lead to more continuous improvements. Technology on the Vermeer’s surface miner has also radically changed. What was once a wish list has now become a reality.

These technological advances have enabled Vermeer’s Surface Miner to incorporate features such as real-time machine data, GPS technology and a full remote control, each helping to maximize operator efficiency and jobsite productivity. Here is a breakdown of the three characteristics.

Real-time machine data

SmartTEC performance software helps operators monitor machine functions to maximize production and access real-time data. The software has a clear dashboard that shows the status of the most critical parts of machine performance and gives you visual cues to increase ground drive or attachment speed to maximize production of your machine.

With this software, Vermeer telematics allows the Vermeer dealer, customers and owners to remotely monitor and record machine information, performance prompts, service codes and machine diagnostics for future analysis.

“Vermeer’s telematics tool gives you access to 24-hour real-time mobile machine monitoring and reporting,” said Mike Selover, director of mining sales for Vermeer.

With this data, you have full control over the tools you need to be as efficient as possible on your job site.

GPS technology

The Surface Miner Vermeer can also be equipped with autoguiding, when paired with GPS control. This GPS technology can be used when tracking a programmed GPS mine plan, allowing the machine to automatically steer straight sections of the GPS mine plan. This minimizes operator steps and is the most efficient way to use a Vermeer Surface Miner.

It also helps to minimize operator errors and steering corrections, ensures consistent minimum overlap in each pass, and maximizes drum cutting efficiency.

“The operator is required to manually flip the Surface Miner Vermeer after each pass and, once back in the straight cut plane programmed by GPS, the autoguider will cut according to the programmed mine plan until the end of the section. right, ”Selover explained. “Then the operator will be hired again to run the machine. This can maximize your tph and optimize your cost per t.

Full function remote control

Then there is the optional full remote control. This allows you to operate the machine remotely in person and control the attachment for certain job site conditions in surface mining, site preparation, and road or pipeline construction.

“The remote can be especially useful when working near a high wall, near a water hazard, or when loading and unloading onto a trailer,” Selover said.

Put these three characteristics together and you have a surface miner equipped with cutting edge technology for the mine site. Get real-time machine data, use GPS technology to increase efficiency, and enjoy the full remote control when you need it most. It is the future of surface mining, and the achievement of several technological advances applied to the mining industry.

Who knows where the next 10 years of technology will take us, but what we do know is that it will continue to change and make sites productive and efficient.
