WESTERN Coalfieds Limited (WCL) Records Highest Coal Overload Production, Shipment and Disposal Ever

during the 2021-22 financial year.

In a massive increase, WCL’s coal production in fiscal year 2021-22 stands at 57.71 million tonnes (MT), registering an annual growth of 14.7%. Also in coal shipment the numbers are also impressive, WCL coal shipment during the year is 64.17 MT, 29.20% more than the previous year.

Similarly, in Overload Elimination (OBR), WCL achieved impressive growth of 7.3%. The tally stands at 272.38 million cubic meters of OBR during the said period.

This is the highest level ever achieved by WCL in a financial year since its inception.

On the first day of the ensuing 2022-23 fiscal year, CMD Manoj Kumar addressed the WCL team in “Ru-Ba-Ru”, an initiative for senior management direct interaction with employees . In his remarks, he appreciated the team’s efforts to achieve the highest level of coal

production, shipping and OBR in fiscal year 2021-22.

Manoj Kumar said WCL’s historic growth is the result of several initiatives over the past year. In FY 2021-22, WCL obtained environmental clearance for coal production of 3.075 MT.

WCL also obtained Forest Clearance for 223 hectares of land. WCL acquired 1,210 hectares of land during this period. This will complement all of the company’s efforts to meet the growing coal needs of

the nation.

Referring to safety in mining operations, Manoj Kumar mentioned that 8 mines of WCL received 9 national safety awards during this period. He further stated that WCL, in order to improve mining operations and increase safety, will widely adopt new mining technologies such as continuous miner and surface miner in its mines.

The Wani region of WCL had the highest contribution of 15.76 MT in coal production this year. Similarly, the Umrer region with

10.35 MT and Nagpur region with 8.67 MT of coal production contributed significantly to the growth this year.

For fiscal year 2022-23, WCL’s coal production target is 62 MT, coal shipment target is 62 MT, and OBR’s target is 330 million cubic meters. With growing confidence from accomplishments in the 2021-22 fiscal year, the WCL team is poised to meet the new targets.
